Here at Best Friends For Frosting we are all about the latest fashion trends, but sometimes they are a little harder to achieve than expected. Luckily, Andrea Corson of LA Label Junkie is here to teach us how to master the denim trend! Between button downs, vests, and dresses, denim is all the rage right now. With this being said, the denim on denim look can look very overwhelming very quickly. We can’t wait for you to read Andrea’s 3 ways to master the trend! The stylist, curator, and creator definitely knows how to successfully rock some denim, check out her tips below:
“Good old denim on denim. Once considered the dreaded ‘Canadian Tuxedo,’ 2015 has put it front and center in the year of the denim take over. And it’s not going anywhere! Even if Britney and Justin’s epic 2001 coordinated denim disaster still haunts you, have no fear. With these three simple tricks of the trade, you’ll be ready to go toe-to-toe with the best of ‘em.
1. The cardinal rule: Avoid the same wash from head to toe.
Rather, find pieces in the same hue, but select one piece that is a wash or two darker or lighter than the other. If the jeans are dark, opt for a lighter chambray top. Or vice versa. It’s all about balance. Side note: Remember that the eye will naturally be drawn to the areas of your body clad in the lightest shade of denim. The darker wash will have a slimming effect on the portion of your body it covers, so use this to your advantage, my friends. If you’re still shy about pairing blue on blue, ease in to denim on denim by pairing a chambray top with a black or white jean. Top it off with a minimalist sandal or bootie, and you really can do no wrong.
2. Let your accessories do the talking.
Once you have the perfect denim on denim backdrop, showcase a few of your most spectacular accessories. As with any outfit, accessories can completely transform a denim on denim look. Top off your outfit with a leopard pump, a bright strappy sandal, even a metallic oxford — it’s hard to go wrong as long as the accessories complement one another. For me, there’s nothing I love more than denim with classic nude touches (and a bold lip). Denim can be surprisingly elegant when coupled with nude or white accents and minimalist accessories. Get it, girl.
3. Play with silhouette (but don’t go overboard!).
Name an article of clothing, and chances are it likely comes in denim form right now. Dresses, vests, jackets, culottes..I’m pretty sure I’ve even spotted a bikini or two. There are infinite possibilities, so have fun with it! But stick to one statement denim piece: If you’re picking a killer patchwork denim jacket, stick to a simple skinny or flared jean to keep it chic and avoid going over the top.”
