Many of us take on several personalities and with those personalities there are uniforms to match. As a part of that uniform, most women wear make up accordingly. Naturally, we wear more make up at night depending on the occasion and some of us wear too much, but hey… that’s none of my business.
If you’re like me, you’ve been surprised to find the party girl sometimes has a look that’s unbelievably different from the girl at the office. If she is trying to make a statement, the eyes are an essential part of the overall expression. Some of us like deep, dark eyes that capture and hypnotize. Others want big, white eyes, while some want to draw less attention to the eyes. But those of you who want to experiment with glitter, I’m going to share the best way I know how to apply glitter eye shadow.
Before
anything, make sure you have the tools. There’s nothing more
frustrating than to start a project only to leave it incomplete because
we didn’t have one key ingredient. My preference, in this case, is
natural glitter. It doesn’t scratch the eyes as much and it adds more
sparkle. So, now that you have the glitter, you will also need at least
three shades of eye shadow, Vaseline or gel, mascara, blending brush and
eye liner. If you have all of those things, we can get started.
2) Prime your eyes with a subtle, soft eye shadow. The best suggestion is to use a cream eye shadow. If you don’t have a cream eye shadow, use a little Vaseline to keep the glitter in place. Be careful though, you don’t want to overdo the Vaseline. Use the cream or Vaseline before the glitter. It kind of helps to keep the glitter on the eye and not all over your face. Most of us find glitter on our foreheads, chins and clothes when it should be on the eyes. Glitter is pretty, but it tends to linger long after the eye make up is gone. Take your time when doing this. You want to look sexy!
3) With a Q-tip or small brush, lightly apply the eye shadow to the inner and outer corners of your eyelid. After you have applied the colors, you can contour the eye for easy application of the glitter with a liquid eye liner, eye liner glitter or pencil.
4) Gently and with a firm, flat brush, pat on the glitter. Do not sweep it or wipe it on. This one tip is what will set you apart from the rest. Next, apply a little extra along the lash line and on the eye lashes if you want. Don’t forget the corners of your eyes. This will even things out a bit. As an alternative, you can use eye glitter eye liner. Again, take your time.
5) Finally, apply two coats of mascara or apply eye lash extensions. The mascara doesn’t have to be black. Spruce it up with a lively color to match your eye shadow.
If you find that there’s too much glitter on your face and clothes, use some masking tape as you would for lint removal, otherwise, glitter eye make up should come off with your regular make up removal products.
I always find a reason for my girls to come over. We have a great time attempting all of the tricks here. I hope you will, too. Until the next time, be inspiring, be inspired… this is your girl, Mikki Donaldson, with another Inspire Beauty tip.
